Reflection and Making

Bringing it all together

“All of this reinforced for me how critical and fragile plant biodiversity is.

Importantly, I came to understand the enormous contribution made by the Islamic world to botanical wisdom, and also how much collective, commonly held knowledge there was centuries ago about plants and their everyday uses in healing, now sadly not generally known. Last and definitely not least, the creative activities were great fun.”

This final session was an opportunity to reflect, question, and discuss. As a group, we focused on four interrelated questions:

  • What were some key themes that emerged from a close looking of the objects?

  • What was your favourite object?

  • In a future exhibition, which stories would you like to see amplified?

  • What does “botanical wisdom” mean to you?

The session ended with a printmaking workshop led by Sa’adiah Khan where participants designed and created botanical-themed tote bags.
